By Heavy snowfall in northern Punjab has prompted authorities to restrict movement on the Islamabad–Murree Expressway (N-75), a key route connecting the federal capital to one of Pakistan’s most popular hill stations. Officials have temporarily stopped general traffic from entering the road toward Murree due to hazardous driving conditions caused by continuous snow accumulation.
According to an alert issued by the National Highways and Motorway Police, the district administration has closed the entry point at Phoolgaran Toll Plaza for regular vehicles. Authorities stated that worsening road conditions, reduced visibility, and slippery surfaces made it unsafe for general commuters to proceed toward Murree.
Limited Access for Locals and Emergency Services
Despite the restrictions, officials clarified that the expressway remains accessible for local residents and emergency services. Rescue teams, medical responders, and essential service vehicles are being allowed to pass under strict monitoring as authorities continue to manage the evolving situation. Traffic police personnel are deployed along sensitive points to guide motorists and prevent congestion.
Travel Advisory Issued
Officials have strongly urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to Murree and nearby hill areas. Snowfall in mountainous regions can rapidly deteriorate road conditions, increasing the risk of skidding, vehicle breakdowns, and accidents—particularly on sharp bends and steep gradients common along the N-75.
Motorists who must travel have been advised to ensure their vehicles are winter-ready, equipped with proper tires, functional brakes, and adequate fuel. Travelers are also encouraged to follow official advisories, cooperate with traffic personnel, and remain updated on road conditions before starting their journey.
Extended Snowfall Likely
The closure comes amid a broader spell of winter weather affecting upper Punjab and northern regions. Recent forecasts indicate that Murree and surrounding areas may experience an extended period of snowfall, raising the likelihood of intermittent road closures, especially during peak tourist hours and nighttime when temperatures drop further.
