Karachi residents and traders have received long-awaited relief as the district administration has successfully eliminated illegally charged parking in Saddar, one of the city’s most congested and busiest commercial areas. The decisive action comes as part of a broader campaign to restore law and order, improve mobility, and curb the influence of parking and encroachment mafias.
The large-scale operation was led by Assistant Commissioner (General) Hazim Bhangwar, who supervised enforcement activities across key locations, including Saddar Mobile Market, Cooperative Market, Abdullah Haroon Road, and areas surrounding Zainab Market. These areas have long been notorious for unauthorized parking operators charging illegal fees from motorists and shopkeepers.
Arrests and Seizures During the Operation
During the crackdown, authorities seized several motorcycles involved in illegal parking operations and took strict action against individuals collecting unauthorized parking fees. According to the district administration, 24 people have been arrested over the past four days, and First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against those involved in unlawful parking activities.
The operation was carried out with the support of multiple departments, including:
- Anti-Encroachment Police
- Deputy Director of Anti-Encroachment
- District administration enforcement teams
Their coordinated effort ensured swift action against illegal operators who had been exploiting citizens for years.
Parallel Anti-Encroachment Drive
Alongside the parking operation, the administration launched an aggressive anti-encroachment drive in Saddar and nearby areas. Officials sealed more than 300 shops and hotels found in violation of regulations, while cases were registered against 12 individuals for encroachment-related offenses.
Sources revealed that members of the parking and encroachment mafias attempted to evade enforcement by shutting down their businesses and fleeing the area as soon as teams arrived.
Authorities Vow Continued Action
The district administration has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the crackdown. Officials stated that operations will continue to ensure free movement, lawful parking, and improved accessibility for shoppers, traders, and commuters in Saddar and surrounding localities.
The move has been widely welcomed by citizens, who see it as a positive step toward reclaiming public spaces, reducing traffic congestion, and ending decades of illegal exploitation in Karachi’s historic commercial hub.
