In a significant move toward women’s empowerment and safer urban mobility, the Sindh government has launched a dedicated scooter riding training programme for women across the province. The initiative aims to provide practical road safety skills, boost confidence, and promote independent transportation for women from all walks of life.
Training Begins in Karachi
According to Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the programme has already started in several areas of Karachi, including Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Malir. The training sessions focus on real-world riding conditions and emphasize road safety, traffic rules, and defensive riding techniques.
Special encouragement is being given to working women who have applied under the Pink Scooty scheme in all districts of Karachi. Officials believe this targeted approach will help ensure that beneficiaries of the scooter distribution programme are fully prepared to ride safely on busy urban roads.
Hyderabad Sessions Start at Niaz Stadium
Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that scooter training in Hyderabad will begin on December 18. The sessions will be conducted daily at Niaz Stadium from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, offering women ample time to attend according to their schedules.
The Hyderabad training will place strong emphasis on hands-on practice, allowing participants to develop riding confidence, balance control, braking skills, and road awareness under supervised conditions.
Expansion to Other Cities Planned
The Sindh government has confirmed that the programme will soon expand to other major cities, including Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Mirpurkhas. Authorities describe the initiative as a province-wide effort to create safer and more accessible transportation options for women.
“The scooter riding training is being provided to ensure safe riding,” Sharjeel Inam Memon stated, highlighting that safety remains the programme’s core objective.
Empowerment Through Safe Mobility
The senior minister stressed that women’s empowerment is a top priority for the Sindh government. He explained that true empowerment extends beyond financial independence and includes social freedom and the ability to travel safely.
According to him, women cannot be genuinely empowered without access to secure and reliable transportation. The scooter training programme is designed to support students and working women alike, helping them achieve self-reliance, confidence, and practical freedom in their daily lives.
A Step Toward Inclusive Mobility
By combining road safety education with practical riding skills, the women scooter training programme represents an important step toward inclusive mobility in Sindh. As the initiative expands across the province, it is expected to positively impact thousands of women, enabling safer commutes and greater independence.
