PM Shehbaz Sharif Inaugurates T-Chowk Flyover and Islamabad Expressway Signal-Free Corridor

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday inaugurated the T-Chowk Flyover and the Islamabad Expressway Signal-Free Corridor, two major infrastructure projects aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister said that the projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility and providing modern transport facilities to commuters, transporters, and residents of the twin cities. He credited the successful completion of the projects to the dedicated efforts of the team led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Projects Completed in Record Time

The T-Chowk Flyover, also known as the Iqbal Chowk Flyover, was completed in a record 77 days at a cost of Rs. 1.4 billion. The prime minister praised the Interior Minister, the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), and their respective teams for delivering high-quality infrastructure within a tight timeline.

According to officials, the newly inaugurated flyover and signal-free corridor will significantly reduce travel time, ease traffic bottlenecks, and ensure smoother connectivity along one of the busiest routes linking Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Commitment to Transparency and Quality Development

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, quality construction, and public service-oriented development projects. He said that infrastructure initiatives are being executed with strict monitoring to ensure long-term durability and maximum public benefit.

The prime minister emphasized that such projects are essential to supporting economic activity, improving daily commuting experiences, and enhancing the overall urban landscape of the capital.

Action Against Encroachments and Illegal Constructions

The prime minister also appreciated government officers for taking decisive action against illegal encroachments and unauthorized constructions, which he said had remained unresolved for decades. He noted that such encroachments had long hindered effective urban planning and delayed critical development projects in Islamabad.

By removing these obstacles, he said, the government has created space for modern infrastructure and better city planning, setting a positive example for future urban development initiatives.

Boost to Islamabad’s Road Network

The inauguration of the T-Chowk Flyover Islamabad and the Islamabad Expressway Signal-Free Corridor is expected to bring long-term benefits, including improved traffic management, reduced fuel consumption, and enhanced road safety.

The projects highlight the federal government’s focus on upgrading Islamabad’s road network and delivering timely infrastructure solutions to meet the growing needs of the capital’s population.
