The Karachi Traffic Police have announced a stricter enforcement campaign targeting seat belt violations across the city. According to a recent statement by a DSP Traffic official during an interview with a private news channel, the department is intensifying checks to ensure both drivers and front-seat passengers comply with seat belt safety regulations.
This new enforcement drive is part of an ongoing effort to reduce road accidents and improve public safety. The DSP emphasized that traffic police will no longer limit enforcement to drivers alone; front-seat passengers who fail to wear seat belts will also face penalties, aligning Karachi with global road safety standards.
Repeat Offenders Will Face Previously Waived Fines
A significant change in policy relates to drivers who repeatedly violate traffic rules. The official revealed that if a motorist commits a second traffic offense, any previously waived fine will now be collected in full, eliminating the leniency that drivers may have received in the past.
This move aims to discourage habitual offenders and reinforce compliance with traffic regulations. The DSP stressed that the new policy leaves little room for repeated negligence, ensuring stricter action against those who continuously disregard traffic laws.
Monitoring Fake Number Plates and Out-of-Province Vehicles
The DSP also addressed another growing concern: the increasing number of vehicles using fake or misleading number plates. He noted that complaints in this category have risen, prompting authorities to intensify monitoring and verification efforts.
Additionally, the Karachi Traffic Police currently lack access to vehicle registration records from other provinces, which complicates enforcement in cases involving out-of-province vehicles. The department is working to address this challenge while continuing surveillance to detect fraudulent registrations.
A Strong Push for Safer Roads
The latest measures reflect the city’s renewed commitment to enhancing road safety, reducing traffic violations, and ensuring responsible driving behavior. With stricter seat belt enforcement, tougher action on repeat offenders, and increased vigilance against fake number plates, Karachi Traffic Police aim to create safer roads for all commuters.
