In a major leap toward smart urban mobility, the Punjab government has approved the establishment of a Rs. 871 million AI-driven Command & Control Centre for the Lahore Ring Road, aiming to revolutionize traffic management and commuter safety across the provincial capital.
The state-of-the-art facility, expected to become operational by early 2026, will feature a combination of AI-based surveillance, radar technology, and real-time analytics to ensure smooth traffic flow and quick response to incidents.
The upcoming Command & Control Centre will deploy high-resolution CCTV cameras, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems, and radar-based speed detection to monitor over 150,000 vehicles daily. AI will play a key role in identifying traffic violations, including wrong-way driving, improper lane changes, and mobile phone use behind the wheel.
The system will also be integrated with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) and the Lahore Traffic Police, allowing seamless coordination between traffic enforcement and emergency response units.
The Centre will include 42 large display screens and 20 analytical monitors for around-the-clock operations. A digital dashboard will visualize live data, generate reports, and enable rapid decision-making for law enforcement agencies. The project will be executed under the Punjab Ring Road Authority (PRRA), with support from the Human Resources Department to ensure skilled staffing.
The project was approved in a high-level meeting chaired by Minister for Works and Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath, alongside Secretary C&W Sohail Ashraf and PRRA Chairman Faisal Farid. Construction is expected to be completed within four months.
Once operational, this will be Punjab’s first AI-integrated traffic management hub, setting a benchmark for similar smart road initiatives across the province. Inspired by the Islamabad Safe City Project, the Lahore Command & Control Centre emphasizes data-led governance, public safety, and enhanced law enforcement efficiency — marking a transformative step toward a smarter, safer urban transport ecosystem in Punjab.
