The federal government has announced the resumption of work on Karachi’s much-delayed Green Line project, signaling long-awaited progress for the city’s public transport infrastructure. Federal spokesperson for Sindh, Raja Khaleeq Ansari, confirmed that the project will move forward swiftly after a detailed review at the Prime Minister’s House.

Speaking to Geo News, Ansari explained that all aspects of the Green Line project were examined during the high-level meeting. He stated that the remaining work identified by the local government would be completed without further delay, calling the update “good news for citizens.”

Ansari revealed that the project, which had faced an approximately one-month delay, is now expected to reach completion by September 2026. A new station will be constructed near Capri Cinema, Plaza, and Jama Cloth, with the Green Line corridor set to end near Jama Cloth.

Addressing the concerns raised by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the spokesperson clarified that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project had already been issued in 2017. Since the NOC does not carry an expiration date, it remains valid, ensuring the legality and continuity of the project.

In addition, Ansari announced that an ultra-modern station at Karachi Cantt would be inaugurated on October 31, 2025. Describing it as a “state-of-the-art facility,” he said the terminal will offer commuters an experience comparable to modern airport standards—a first for Karachi’s public transport network.

The federal government, he added, is also committed to supporting other infrastructure and urban development projects across Karachi. Currently, maintenance work is being carried out on the Lyari Expressway, which will continue operations without disruption.

The Green Line project, part of Karachi’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network, is a crucial initiative aimed at easing the city’s chronic traffic congestion and improving mass transit accessibility. Its completion will mark a significant step forward in addressing Karachi’s transportation challenges, providing residents with a faster, cleaner, and more efficient commuting option.

With federal and local collaboration renewed, Karachi’s Green Line revival could finally turn years of delay into tangible progress—ushering in a new era of connectivity for Pakistan’s largest city.
