Punjab Launches Electric Bus Service in Wazirabad

The Punjab government is set to introduce the Wazirabad electric bus service on September 17, 2025, marking a historic step in the city’s urban transport system. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate the project, which brings modern, eco-friendly public transport to Wazirabad for the very first time.

A Milestone in Wazirabad’s Public Transport

In the first phase, fifteen fully electric buses will begin operations across major city routes. The initiative aims to provide affordable and sustainable commuting options to thousands of daily passengers. Authorities estimate that nearly 100,000 commuters will benefit from the service each day.

By reducing dependence on traditional fuel-powered vehicles, the electric buses are expected to ease traffic congestion and significantly cut pollution levels in the city.

The announcement comes shortly after CM Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the Green Electric Bus Service in Mianwali, signaling the government’s commitment to sustainable mobility across the province.

Speaking at the launch, Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the electric bus project in Wazirabad is part of a broader plan to modernize public transport across Punjab. The government plans to gradually expand the service to other districts, ensuring more cities benefit from eco-friendly travel options.
