The Workers Welfare Board Sindh has taken a major step towards inclusive and sustainable worker welfare by expanding its electric bike initiative to include not only women but also minority industrial laborers. Secretary Rafiq Qureshi announced the expansion as part of a broader effort to provide eco-friendly transportation options and greater welfare support for underprivileged groups within the industrial workforce.

To fund these welfare projects, the board plans to invest Rs. 3 billion in SECP-certified, Shariah-compliant Sukuk bonds, ensuring that financing remains both sustainable and ethical. This strategic investment reflects a long-term vision to enhance workers’ livelihoods through innovative financial tools.

Comprehensive Welfare Measures

Beyond the electric bike program, several key welfare initiatives have been unveiled:

  • Healthcare: A new annual accidental health insurance scheme will provide coverage of up to Rs. 700,000 per worker, accessible through a network of 270 hospitals nationwide.
  • Housing: The board will construct fully solar-powered homes for workers instead of conventional housing, promoting renewable energy use.
  • Education: Schools under the board’s jurisdiction will be solarized, and schoolchildren will receive two sets of uniforms annually, easing financial burdens on families.
  • Digital Governance: Full digitization of all departments is underway to ensure transparency, efficiency, and fair service delivery.

Increased Welfare Grants

Following directives from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the death compensation for workers has been increased from Rs. 700,000 to Rs. 1 million, while marriage grants have risen from Rs. 300,000 to Rs. 500,000.

A Transformative Vision

These initiatives signal a renewed commitment to uplift the industrial workforce by integrating clean energy, improved healthcare, modern housing, and education support. The expansion of the Workers Welfare Board Sindh electric bike initiative is just the starting point in a larger journey toward sustainable progress and equitable development in the province.
