Punjab Launches Registration for E-Taxi Project Under Green and Clean Transport Policy

In a progressive step towards sustainable transportation, the Punjab government has officially opened registration for its E-Taxi initiative under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s “Green and Clean Transport” policy. The project is part of a broader effort to introduce eco-friendly, safe, and cost-effective transportation alternatives, starting with a pilot rollout in Lahore.

The Transport and Mass Transit Department, in collaboration with the Bank of Punjab, is spearheading this initial phase. It has invited Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), authorized dealerships, distributors, and joint ventures to submit electric car models that meet specific technical, safety, and operational standards required for public taxi use. Approved models will be added to an official shortlist from which future e-taxi vehicles will be selected.

Interested participants are required to submit their applications and necessary documents to the Transport and Mass Transit Department at 11-A Egerton Road, Lahore, no later than 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

To make electric vehicle adoption more feasible, the government is offering a comprehensive support package. This includes:

  • Assistance with down payments
  • Bank-backed financing options over five years
  • Partial coverage of registration fees

Eligible buyers can secure financing of up to Rs. 6.5 million per vehicle. Any additional cost beyond this cap will be the responsibility of the purchaser. Vehicles must be selected from the government-approved list to qualify for the incentives.

For stakeholders seeking clarification, a pre-submission meeting will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the department’s committee room. A recording of this session will be made available to the public on the department’s official website.
