Islamabad Sightseeing Double-Decker Bus Service: A New Era for Tourism in Capital City

The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has announced an exciting new initiative to promote tourism in the capital city of Islamabad. During a stakeholder briefing held on Wednesday, Aftab ur Rehman Rana, Managing Director of PTDC, introduced the Islamabad Sightseeing Double-Decker Bus Service, set to launch in January 2025.

This venture, a collaboration between PTDC and the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), aims to provide tourists with an eco-friendly and convenient way to explore Islamabad’s iconic landmarks. The double-decker buses will operate twice daily, offering a seamless pick-and-drop service from major hotels across the city, ensuring accessibility and ease for both local and international visitors.

Mr. Rana emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s vision of leveraging tourism as a key driver of economic growth. He underscored the service’s role in enhancing the tourist experience while positioning Islamabad as a premier travel destination.

Expanding Horizons: Phase Two

Following the initial launch, PTDC plans to roll out the second phase of the program, which will feature weekend sightseeing trips to historical and cultural sites beyond Islamabad. These locations include Taxila, Rohtas Fort, Katas Raj, Kallar Kahar, Khewra Salt Mines, Takht-e-Bahi, Murree, Patriata, and Peshawar. To maximize the program’s reach and efficiency, PTDC intends to collaborate with private sector partners.

A Vision for Integrated Tourism

This project is part of PTDC’s larger integrated tourism strategy, aimed at establishing Islamabad as a leading gateway for both domestic and international travelers. Mr. Rana expressed optimism that the initiative would significantly elevate Islamabad’s status as a travel hub, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of Pakistan’s tourism industry.
