According to the latest data released by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA), car sales in Pakistan saw a remarkable increase of 49.66% during the first five months of the current fiscal year 2024–25 compared to the same period in the previous year.

Key Insights from PAMA’s Report

The report highlights that 38,534 cars were sold between July and November 2024, a significant rise from the 25,746 units sold during the same months of FY 2023–24. Here’s a breakdown of key performances by manufacturers and models:

Honda Civic and City

  • Sales increased to 5,434 units from 3,151 units last year, reflecting a significant boost in demand.

Toyota Corolla and Yaris

  • The combined sales of these models surged by 79.40%, climbing from 4,725 units to 8,477 units.

Suzuki Swift

  • A steady rise in popularity saw Swift sales grow by 57.45%, moving up from 1,852 units to 2,916 units.

Suzuki Alto and Bolan

  • The Suzuki Alto maintained its position as a popular choice, with sales growing by 36.90%, increasing from 11,306 units to 15,479 units.
  • The Suzuki Bolan recorded a staggering growth, jumping to 2,896 units from just 853 units last year.

Decline in Suzuki WagonR and Cultus Sales

  • Suzuki WagonR sales dropped from 1,420 units to 939 units, indicating a 33.87% decrease.
  • Similarly, the Suzuki Cultus saw a decline, with sales falling to 808 units from 1,611 units, marking a 49.84% drop.

Industry Implications

The surge in overall car sales reflects a positive trend in the automotive sector, driven by increased consumer demand and market recovery post-pandemic. However, the decline in specific models like the WagonR and Cultus suggests changing consumer preferences or production challenges.

The PAMA data underlines a mixed but optimistic outlook for Pakistan’s automotive industry. While most models and brands have shown significant growth, some have faced challenges, highlighting the need for manufacturers to adapt to evolving market dynamics.

This surge in sales could serve as a positive indicator for the economic revival of the auto sector in Pakistan.
