In November 2024, the Punjab Traffic Police achieved remarkable progress in license issuance, issuing over 841,000 driving licenses across the state. This impressive figure includes 308,000 new licenses, 284,000 renewals, and approximately 243,000 learner licenses. Additionally, more than 4,500 international licenses were granted, highlighting Punjab’s efforts to streamline its licensing system and cater to diverse driving needs.

Around-the-Clock Licensing Centers

To meet the rising demand, major city licensing centers operated 24/7, ensuring convenience and accessibility for applicants. This initiative was praised by the Additional IG Traffic, who emphasized how extended operational hours have improved the efficiency of the system and reduced wait times. The proactive measures demonstrate the Punjab Traffic Police’s commitment to enhancing public service.

Special Initiatives for Rickshaw Drivers

In a bid to empower rickshaw drivers and integrate them into the regulated driving system, the Punjab Traffic Police has introduced a dedicated licensing program. Under this initiative, special driving exams for rickshaw drivers will be conducted every Sunday at designated locations. This decision was jointly made by the Additional IG Traffic and the Secretary of Transport, showcasing their focus on inclusivity and safer roads.

Historical Milestones in Licensing

Punjab’s commitment to improving its licensing infrastructure has been ongoing. In 2023, the province issued over 10 million driving licenses, setting a historic record. This achievement was lauded by then-Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who acknowledged the Punjab Traffic Police and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) for their innovative efforts in modernizing the process.

With these initiatives, the Punjab Traffic Police continues to lead the way in ensuring accessibility, efficiency, and safety in driving regulations across the state.
