In a move to enhance security during the upcoming religious events, the Sindh government has imposed a temporary ban on pillion riding in several cities, including Karachi. This decision comes in response to security concerns raised by the Inspector General of Police, particularly during Eid-i-Miladun Nabi and the Ashura procession.

Pillion Riding Ban from September 13 to 17

According to a notification issued by the Sindh Home Department on Thursday, the ban on pillion riding will be in effect for five days, from September 13 to 17. The restriction will be enforced in Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, and Sukkur. The measure aims to ensure public safety and maintain law and order during the religious observances.

Pillion riding, or double riding on motorcycles, is often restricted during sensitive periods to prevent incidents that could disrupt security, especially in crowded areas during processions and gatherings.

Public Holiday Declared on September 17 for Eid-i-Miladun Nabi

In addition to the security measures, the Sindh government has declared a public holiday on Tuesday, September 17, in observance of Eid-i-Miladun Nabi. This day marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is celebrated with various religious activities, including processions, recitations, and prayers.

All educational institutions, government offices, and public-sector organizations across Sindh will remain closed on this day, as per the official notification issued by the provincial government. Before this announcement, both the Punjab government and the federal government had also declared a public holiday on September 17 to mark the occasion.

Security Measures to Continue

With the ban on pillion riding and other security protocols in place, law enforcement agencies will continue to maintain a strong presence in key areas to ensure the peaceful observance of Eid-i-Miladun Nabi and Ashura. The Sindh government’s proactive approach reflects its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public during these important religious events.
