Yousuf Dewan and Shanghai firm team up to develop Pakistan’s first National Electric Car

Pakistan is taking a major step toward electric vehicle (EV) adoption, as Yousuf Dewan Companies (YDC) and Shanghai Launch Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. (LAUNCH) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to develop Pakistan’s first National Electric Car.

The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Beijing, aims to introduce cutting-edge EV technology to Pakistan, promote sustainable transportation, and establish local EV manufacturing.

Key Highlights of the Partnership

Development of Pakistan’s National Electric Car – YDC and LAUNCH will collaborate to design and manufacture a locally assembled EV, leveraging LAUNCH’s advanced technology.

Local Assembly Operations (CKD) – The agreement includes plans to establish completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly operations for various battery electric vehicles (BEVs). These will include right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD) models, catering to both domestic and export markets.

Sustainability and Economic Growth – By localizing production, the partnership aims to reduce Pakistan’s reliance on fuel-based vehicles, promote clean energy solutions, and create new job opportunities in the EV manufacturing sector.

Pakistan’s Shift Toward Electric Mobility

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s transition to sustainable transportation. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Khan Muhammad Wazir (Science Councilor) and Idrees Gigi (Director of Projects, YDC) emphasized the importance of EV development in reducing emissions and promoting energy efficiency.

Statements from Key Officials

LAUNCH Representative:
“We are excited to collaborate with YDC to introduce our world-class EV technology to Pakistan. This agreement underscores our commitment to sustainable mobility and strengthens our global presence in the EV industry.”

Idrees Gigi, Director of Projects, YDC:
“This partnership with LAUNCH is a transformative moment for Pakistan’s EV sector. By localizing production and introducing the latest EV models, we aim to accelerate sustainable transportation and contribute to Pakistan’s economic and environmental goals.”

Future Prospects

The YDC-LAUNCH partnership is expected to fast-track Pakistan’s EV industry, making affordable and high-quality electric vehicles accessible to consumers. With government support and investment in local infrastructure, this collaboration could pave the way for Pakistan to become a regional hub for EV production.
