The Ministry of Industries and Production has made a significant announcement that marks a new chapter for Pakistan’s automotive industry. Soon, Pakistan will begin exporting SUVs and other cars, showcasing its growing capabilities in car manufacturing and its ambition to establish a strong presence in the international market.

Initial Export Phase: Toyota Indus SUVs

In the initial phase, Pakistan will export 50 locally manufactured Toyota Indus SUVs. This marks a significant achievement for the country’s automotive sector, demonstrating its ability to produce vehicles that meet international standards.

Future Plans: Toyota Indus Hybrid Corolla Cross

Following the initial export of SUVs, the second phase will involve exporting the Toyota Indus Hybrid Corolla Cross. This move not only highlights Pakistan’s manufacturing prowess but also its commitment to advancing hybrid and eco-friendly vehicle technology.

Enhancing Technical Expertise

To support these ambitious plans, 100 Pakistani mechanical engineers have been sent to Japan for specialized training. Their skills and expertise have been acknowledged and appreciated by Japanese industry leaders, underscoring the high-quality production standards Pakistan aims to maintain.

Regulatory Changes and Industry Impact

On June 4, the federal government considered raising regulatory duties on used imported vehicles in the upcoming budget. This potential increase will particularly affect vehicles over 1800cc, and new duties may be applied to other categories of vehicles as well.

Promoting Local Manufacturing

The government’s consideration of increasing duties on imported vehicles suggests a strategic effort to promote local manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign cars. By creating a more favorable environment for local manufacturers, Pakistan aims to boost its automotive industry and ensure sustainable growth.

The decision to start exporting locally manufactured SUVs and hybrid cars is a significant step for Pakistan’s automotive industry. It not only highlights the country’s growing manufacturing capabilities but also its commitment to enhancing technical expertise and maintaining high production standards. As Pakistan enters the international automotive market, it sets a promising path for future growth and development in the industry.
