In a major boost to Pakistan’s electric mobility infrastructure, a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station has been inaugurated at PSO I-8 Markaz in Islamabad. The initiative is a result of a strategic collaboration between BYD, Hubco Green Energy, and Pakistan State Oil (PSO). Strategically located in one of Islamabad’s busiest commercial areas, the station aims to provide convenient and reliable EV charging access to urban commuters.

Seamless Integration into Existing Fuel Networks

The newly commissioned station is housed within a PSO fuel station, highlighting a significant shift in energy distribution — one that integrates EV support into the country’s existing fuel infrastructure. This approach is designed to ease the transition for both new and current EV users, offering accessible charging options where traditional fuel services are already trusted and established.

National EV Coverage Expands

This latest launch adds to BYD’s growing network of charging stations across Pakistan. Current operational locations include:

  • Emporium Mall, Lahore
  • Packages Mall, Lahore
  • PSO Station, E-11, Islamabad
  • DHA Phase 6, Karachi (near Sea View)
  • Emporium Charging Bay near Nishat Hotel, Lahore

Each of these sites has been carefully selected based on proximity to high-traffic commercial zones and densely populated residential areas. The goal is to maximize convenience and usability for EV owners, especially in urban centers where demand for clean and efficient transport is on the rise.

Alignment with Pakistan’s NEVP Goals

This development aligns closely with Pakistan’s National Electric Vehicle Policy (NEVP), which emphasizes reducing carbon emissions and increasing the share of electric vehicles in the national fleet. One of the major hurdles to widespread EV adoption is the lack of accessible charging infrastructure—an issue that partnerships like this aim to resolve.

A Step Forward for Sustainable Transport

With initiatives like this, public-private partnerships are proving instrumental in building Pakistan’s clean energy future. As Islamabad joins the list of cities with an operational EV charging hub, it sets a precedent for similar projects in other high-potential regions across the country.
