Residents of Rawalpindi can now drive through the newly constructed Nawaz Sharif Flyover at Khawaja Corporation Chowk on Adiala Road, which has been opened for traffic ahead of its formal inauguration by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The major infrastructure project, completed at a cost of Rs. 2.3 billion, aims to ease the city’s notorious traffic congestion, particularly on the busy Adiala Road corridor. The flyover is a key part of a larger Rs. 4.38 billion urban uplift plan that also includes two underpasses and a pedestrian passageway on Mall Road — both of which remain closed until the official launch ceremony is held.

A Much-Needed Relief for Commuters

The Nawaz Sharif Flyover is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters by reducing bottlenecks at one of Rawalpindi’s busiest intersections. Local residents and daily travelers have welcomed the partial opening, saying the new flyover is already helping to streamline traffic flow and save time during peak hours.

Underpasses Still Await Formal Launch

Despite the completion of construction work, the two underpasses and pedestrian passage on Mall Road are not yet open to the public. Officials say they will be made operational after the Chief Minister’s formal inauguration in the coming days.

Urban Development Push in Punjab

The project highlights the provincial government’s continued focus on addressing urban traffic woes and improving infrastructure in Punjab’s major cities. CM Maryam Nawaz has prioritized projects that aim to modernize transport networks and ease commuting challenges for residents.

Until the official launch takes place, citizens can expect partial relief through the flyover, with full benefits to follow once the entire project is operational.
