The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) has introduced a stringent new policy to curb overspeeding on motorways across Pakistan. This move aims to enhance road safety and reduce accidents caused by reckless driving.
Strict Speed Regulations for Safer Highways
As per the latest directives:
- Vehicles exceeding 150 km/h will face a complete motorway ban, a heavy fine, and an FIR.
- Speed limits:
- Cars: 120 km/h on three-lane motorways.
- Public service vehicles (buses, vans, etc.): 110 km/h.
This campaign, spearheaded by IG Motorway Police Riffat Mukhtar Raja, focuses on enhancing road safety by enforcing strict speed monitoring, improving safety barriers, and ensuring proper fencing along motorways to prevent accidents.
100% M-Tag Policy for Toll Collection
In addition to road safety measures, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has introduced a 100% M-Tag requirement for all motorway toll payments. Effective from February 1, 2025, the policy mandates:
- Vehicles without an M-Tag or with low balances will incur a 25% surcharge on toll fees.
- A minimum surcharge of Rs. 50 will apply for non-compliance.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to fully automate toll collection, reducing cash transactions and ensuring smoother traffic flow.
These measures reflect Pakistan’s commitment to road safety and digital transformation. The overspeeding crackdown will help reduce fatal accidents, while the M-Tag policy ensures efficient toll collection. Motorists are advised to adhere to speed limits and update their M-Tags to avoid penalties and ensure safer travel.
