Shanghai, China – April 2025: SAIC Motors has officially pulled the wraps off its latest electric marvel, the MG ES5, at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025. Replacing the globally popular MG ZS EV, the ES5 is a next-gen, fully electric compact SUV poised to reshape the EV landscape—with serious potential for a Pakistan launch.
A Pure-Electric Successor
Previously known by its codename “S5”, the ES5 is MG’s new zero-emissions family SUV, built on SAIC’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP)—the same EV-dedicated architecture underpinning the MG4 hatchback. However, the ES5 features a longer wheelbase (2,730 mm), sleeker proportions, and more advanced tech.
Range & Performance Options
The ES5 offers three battery range variants:
- 425 km
- 515 km
- 525 km (CLTC cycle)
These are powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor delivering 168 hp (125 kW) and 250 Nm of torque, enabling 0–100 km/h acceleration in just 8 seconds. The top speed is rated at 170 km/h.
Battery capacities come in 49.1 kWh and 62.2 kWh, supplied by CATL-SAIC. The ultra-thin 110mm battery pack is among the thinnest in the world, highlighting MG’s innovation in space efficiency.
Modern Design Meets Practical Tech
From the outside, the MG ES5 boasts a closed-off fascia, split LED headlamps, and Cyberster-inspired bumper intakes, with Y-shaped taillights giving it a futuristic edge. It’s available with 17″ or 18″ wheels, and its panoramic sunroof enhances cabin openness.
Inside, the SUV features a 25-inch digital instrument cluster, floating touchscreen, flat-bottom D-shaped steering wheel, wireless charging pad, and dual cupholders. The cabin design is clean, user-focused, and tech-forward, promising a premium experience for families.
MG ES5 Price and Possible Launch in Pakistan
In China, the ES5 is expected to be priced between Â¥100,000 to Â¥150,000 (approx. Rs. 3.9M to Rs. 5.85M). While not officially confirmed for Pakistan, MG’s strong local presence and the recent spotting of ES5 test units in Europe hint at potential international exports—possibly including Pakistan.
If MG introduces the ES5 in Pakistan, it could become a game-changer in the affordable electric SUV segment, challenging rivals with its combination of range, style, and smart features.
