Karachi to Impose Rs 15,000 Fine for Wrong-Way Motorcyclists in New Traffic Crackdown

In a decisive move to combat the growing number of traffic accidents caused by wrong-way driving, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has empowered its city wardens to issue heavy fines to violators. This initiative comes in response to the alarming rise in motorcyclists ignoring one-way rules, putting themselves and others at risk.

According to a statement released by the KMC on Wednesday, motorists driving in the wrong direction on major roads in Karachi will now face a Rs 15,000 fine. The new enforcement rule is part of a broader effort to improve traffic discipline and enhance public road safety across the city.

Official Resolution to Be Presented in City Council

The KMC confirmed that this measure will be tabled for approval as a formal resolution in the upcoming City Council session. The crackdown is being implemented under the leadership of Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who also chairs the Karachi Task Force.

Mayor Wahab stressed the need for strict enforcement of traffic regulations, especially one-way violations, to reduce preventable accidents and improve the flow of traffic in the city. He urged citizens to comply with traffic laws and support the authorities in maintaining safer roads.

Wrong-Way Driving: A Major Hazard on Karachi Roads

Wrong-way driving—particularly by motorcyclists—has become a major concern in Karachi’s traffic management. These violations often lead to severe accidents, traffic jams, and unnecessary congestion on already-burdened roads. The new fines are intended as a deterrent and a reminder of the consequences of ignoring traffic rules.

Public Cooperation Key to Success

The success of this initiative will depend heavily on public cooperation. City officials encourage Karachi’s residents to respect traffic signs and directions, and to report violators when possible. The initiative aims to instill a culture of road safety awareness and accountability in urban mobility.

With the new Rs 15,000 fine for wrong-way drivers, Karachi is taking a firm stance against reckless traffic behavior. Backed by strong leadership and enforcement, this move is expected to significantly improve road safety and traffic flow in one of Pakistan’s busiest cities.
