As Ramadan is started, the Karachi administration has rolled out a new traffic management plan to reduce congestion, particularly during peak Iftar hours. The initiative, led by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi, was discussed in a recent high-level meeting attended by key officials, including Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah, and representatives from municipal and cantonment boards.
Increased Traffic Management & Personnel Deployment
To manage the surge in traffic during Ramadan, especially between 2 PM and 7 PM, additional traffic personnel will be deployed on key roads. This measure aims to streamline vehicle movement in busy areas and prevent unnecessary gridlocks.
Furthermore, special help desks will be set up in major shopping areas to assist with parking and traffic concerns, ensuring a smoother experience for Eid shoppers.
Parking Regulations & Market Coordination
In an effort to optimize parking facilities, Karachi’s deputy commissioners have been directed to collaborate with market associations to regulate parking arrangements. Authorities are also taking strict action against commercial buildings that have illegally converted basement parking areas into shops or warehouses.
Commissioner Naqvi specifically ordered the immediate reopening of basement parking spaces in high-traffic shopping centers, including:
- Imtiaz Supermarket on Rashid Minhas Road
- Chase Up Value on Kashmir Road
Authorities confirmed that in District South, several commercial buildings have already restored their basement parking facilities, with similar measures planned across the city.
Ensuring Smooth Traffic Flow During Ramadan
With the increase in shopping and commuting activities during the holy month, Karachi’s administration aims to improve traffic efficiency and public convenience. Officials are urging citizens to follow parking guidelines and traffic rules to ensure a hassle-free Ramadan.
For real-time updates on traffic conditions and road closures, commuters are advised to stay informed through official traffic management channels.
