By Pakistan Auto Show (PAPS) 2026 recently concluded in Lahore with the presence of some of the country’s leading automotive brands. This year, one trend stood out clearly. Consumer preferences are changing, and the automotive industry is moving towards a new energy future.
One of the most interesting showcases at the three-day event came from BYD, the world’s leading NEV manufacturer. The brand’s presence reflected its growing commitment to the local market. However, it was not just about a single vehicle. Instead, BYD displayed a wide range of choices that highlighted how quickly the conversation around NEV mobility is changing in Pakistan.
BYD showcased four distinct products: the Atto 2, the Shark 6 Anniversary Edition in Outback Orange, the Sealion 6, which is soon to launch as a locally assembled vehicle, and the Denza B8. The Denza B8 is the first vehicle being presented in Pakistan under BYD’s luxury technology brand, Denza.
Together, these models cover different segments, technologies and lifestyles. They range from fully electric urban driving to plug-in hybrid mobility and premium utility. More importantly, the lineup shows how BYD now offers vehicles across multiple categories in the local market.
That breadth is significant. The Pakistani market is no longer simply asking whether electric vehicles have a place here. Consumers are increasingly exploring what different forms of NEV mobility can offer in everyday life.
BYD’s own journey reflects this change. Since entering Pakistan, the company has moved from introducing electric vehicles to expanding its portfolio across both NEVs and plug-in hybrids. The brand’s growing popularity is now visible on Pakistani roads. This gives BYD an expanding customer base and valuable real-world experience in the local market.
At PAPS this year, BYD highlighted where that journey is heading next. At the centre of its showcase was the Sealion 6. The model will become BYD’s first locally assembled vehicle in Pakistan, with production targeted to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
This announcement shifts the conversation beyond importing NEVs and towards establishing a local production footprint. BYD has developed the project rapidly, and its local assembly plans demonstrate the brand’s commitment to building an ecosystem that can support Pakistan’s transition towards electric mobility.
The Sealion 6 also shows why plug-in hybrids are becoming part of this conversation. The SUV uses BYD’s latest-generation Super DM-i technology and can deliver up to 1,100 km of total range. It combines electric driving with the flexibility of a hybrid powertrain.
For consumers who want to experience electric driving while also taking longer journeys, this combination offers another option.
The rest of BYD’s PAPS lineup reinforces the same idea. There is no single path to the future of driving. The Atto 2 represents the company’s electric offering in the urban segment. The Shark 6 brings plug-in hybrid technology to the premium utility market, while its Anniversary Edition adds a distinctive identity to the pickup.
Meanwhile, the Denza B8 introduces a more premium interpretation of new energy mobility.
Rather than presenting these vehicles as variations of the same concept, BYD used PAPS to show how electrification can meet different needs. This was perhaps the larger story emerging from the show.
Pakistan’s automotive market is beginning to move beyond a simple choice between conventional and electric vehicles. Consumers now have access to a wider range of technologies and driving experiences.
BYD’s next phase in Pakistan is therefore about more than adding new vehicles. With the planned local assembly of the Sealion 6, the company is also moving from bringing global NEV technology into Pakistan towards establishing a production presence in the country.
For a market that is increasingly adopting NEVs, this could prove to be one of the most important shifts highlighted at PAPS 2026.
