Petroleum prices in Pakistan are expected to witness an upward revision from March 1, 2026, driven by rising global crude oil and refined product benchmarks. According to industry estimates and data shared by Arif Habib Research, both petrol and diesel prices may increase in the upcoming fortnightly review.
Expected Petrol and Diesel Prices
Based on current projections, the following changes are anticipated:
| Fuel Type | Current Price (PKR/Ltr) | Expected Increase (PKR/Ltr) | Expected New Price (PKR/Ltr) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | 258.17 | +5.13 | 263.30 |
| Diesel | 275.70 | +6.80 | 282.50 |
Petrol prices are expected to increase by PKR 5.13 per litre, bringing the new rate to PKR 263.30 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel may see a sharper increase of PKR 6.80 per litre, pushing its price to PKR 282.50 per litre.
Why Are Global Oil Prices Rising?
The primary driver behind the anticipated hike in Pakistan petroleum prices for March 2026 is the surge in international crude oil benchmarks. Escalating geopolitical tensions between Iran and the United States have created uncertainty in global oil markets. These tensions have triggered supply-side concerns in the Middle East, prompting international buyers to pay a premium for crude oil shipments.
During the latter half of February, major global benchmarks posted consistent gains. Arab Light crude recorded an increase of 2.7%, averaging $69.18 per barrel, while Brent crude rose by 3.2%.
Refined petroleum products experienced even steeper increases. Gasoline (petrol) prices surged by 5.6% in the international market, while gas oil (diesel) climbed by 4.0%. A slight widening in product spreads has further amplified the estimated increase in domestic fuel prices.
Impact on Pakistan’s Economy
Higher petroleum prices typically translate into increased transportation costs, which can subsequently raise prices of essential commodities. Industries dependent on diesel-powered logistics may experience cost pressures, potentially impacting inflation. Consumers are likely to feel the immediate effect at fuel pumps nationwide.
The final decision on revised petroleum prices will be announced by the government following recommendations from relevant regulatory authorities before March 1, 2026.
