Karachi Traffic Police Announce Major Road Closures and Detours Amid Expressway Construction

The Karachi Traffic Police have announced major temporary road closures and traffic diversions across several key areas of the city to facilitate ongoing infrastructure upgrades and expressway construction projects. Commuters have been advised to plan alternative routes in advance and brace for potential delays over the coming days.

One of the most significant closures involves Jahangir Road, a crucial thoroughfare connecting Teen Hatti to Gurumandir, which will remain completely closed for one week, starting from midnight tonight. Authorities stated that the closure is necessary to ensure the safe and timely execution of construction work.

To manage traffic flow during this period, motorists are advised to use the following alternate route:

  • Jail Chowrangi → Nishtar Road → PIB Chowrangi → Jamshed Road

For heavy and commercial vehicles, dedicated detours have been arranged via:

  • Dak Khana Chowrangi toward Askari Park
  • Nazimabad No. 1 Chowrangi

Traffic police personnel will remain deployed in surrounding areas to oversee diversions and minimize congestion.

In another major development, both sides of the Malir River Bridge on National Highway will be closed from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Sunday due to construction work related to the Malir Expressway project. Vehicles traveling from Quaidabad toward the city center have been instructed to take a U-turn at Shahrah-e-Bhutto, while a temporary diversion near Moulvi Hotel will be available beside the bridge.

Additionally, the link road from Ayesha Mosque to Defence via Shahrah-e-Bhutto Interchange will remain closed. However, traffic moving from Ayesha Mosque toward Creek will continue to operate normally.

To ease congestion on major corridors, Karachi Traffic Police have recommended several key detours:

  • Shahrah-e-Faisal to Defence via Korangi Road
→ Turn at Ittehad Signal and proceed through Khayaban-e-Ittehad
  • Korangi-bound traffic
→ Use the Qayoomabad Chowrangi flyover over Malir Nadi
  • Shaheed-e-Millat to Defence
→ Take the PT Flyover or the new Korangi flyover

Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, follow on-ground instructions from traffic wardens, and stay informed by contacting the live traffic helpline 1915 for real-time updates. Authorities emphasized that these measures are temporary and aimed at improving long-term traffic infrastructure across Karachi.
