In response to the rising issue of smuggled and adulterated petrol, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) introduced the Rahguzar mobile application. This app allows drivers to instantly verify whether a petrol pump is legally licensed.
Real-Time Verification for Motorists
Developed for the Department of Industries, Commerce, Investment, and Skills Development, the Rahguzar app provides a live map of authorized fuel stations in Punjab. Motorists can simply open the app and check if the station they are visiting is registered with the government.
In addition, the app empowers users to report suspicious or unregistered pumps directly to provincial authorities, acting as a digital whistleblower tool.
Why Legality Matters for Your Car
Using fuel from unauthorized sources can cause serious damage. Smuggled or low-quality petrol often contains harmful chemicals that can affect modern engines. Owners of vehicles like the Honda Civic or Changan Alsvin may experience:
- Engine knocking or reduced power
- Clogged fuel injectors and damaged fuel pumps
- Long-term catalytic converter failure
By using the Rahguzar app, drivers can ensure they receive high-quality, government-approved petrol at the pump.
Crackdown on Illegal Fuel Stations
The launch of Rahguzar is part of a wider provincial crackdown on illegal fuel outlets. District administrations are now cross-checking every operational pump against the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) database. Stations operating without valid licenses face immediate seizure and hefty fines.
