Pakistan Railways has announced the launch of a special tourist train service to the Thar Desert, aiming to promote domestic tourism and showcase the natural and cultural beauty of Sindh. The initiative offers travelers a rare opportunity to experience the vast desert landscapes of Thar while enjoying a well-organized rail journey from Karachi to Khokhrapar Zero Point.
According to Pakistan Railways officials, the tourist train will depart from Karachi Cantonment Station at 9:00 am on December 20. The journey will take passengers through scenic towns and railway routes, with a scheduled stop at Chhor, before continuing towards the Zero Point near the Pakistan-India border.
Overnight Stay and Cultural Experience in Chhor
The train is expected to arrive in Chhor at 5:00 pm on December 20, where passengers will stay overnight. To enhance the tourist experience, Pakistan Railways has arranged camping facilities, along with a bonfire, music, and dinner, allowing travelers to enjoy the cultural charm of the Thar region under the desert sky.
For passengers seeking additional comfort, guest house accommodation will also be available for an extra fee. Officials stated that these arrangements are designed to cater to different preferences while ensuring safety and convenience throughout the journey.
Journey to Khokhrapar Zero Point
On December 21, the tourist train will resume its journey. It will depart from Chhor at 7:00 am and head towards Khokhrapar Zero Point, a site of historical and geographical significance. Upon arrival, passengers will be served breakfast and given ample time to explore nearby tourist and recreational spots, offering insight into the region’s unique landscape and heritage.
The Zero Point area provides a glimpse into the stark beauty of the desert and its surroundings, making it a highlight of the tour for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Return to Karachi
After completing the sightseeing activities, the train will begin its return journey and is scheduled to reach Karachi by 6:00 pm on December 21. The two-day tour is designed to provide a memorable travel experience while encouraging tourism in less-explored regions of Pakistan.
