Islamabad to Begin Mandatory E-Tagging for All Vehicles From November 18

Islamabad’s administration has officially announced that e-tagging for all vehicles will begin on November 18 as part of a strengthened security and digital monitoring framework. According to Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, the initiative will apply not only to vehicles registered in the federal capital, but also to vehicles belonging to other provinces that operate or enter Islamabad on a daily basis.

Authorities will soon announce designated locations for e-tag issuance, allowing residents, commuters, and visitors to complete the process smoothly. The decision is expected to impact private vehicle owners, commercial transporters, ride-hailing services, and inter-city travelers who frequently use Islamabad’s road network.

The implementation follows earlier remarks by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, who confirmed that electronic tags would be made compulsory for every vehicle operating within Islamabad. He emphasized that no vehicle, regardless of ownership or registration origin, will be allowed on the capital’s roads without an officially issued e-tag.

Security Measures After G-11 Blast

The mandatory e-tagging policy comes in response to security concerns after the tragic suicide blast outside the District and Sessions Court in G-11, where 12 lives were lost and 36 individuals were injured. Officials have stated that the new digital identification and tracking system aims to improve real-time monitoring, prevent unauthorized vehicle movement, and strengthen public safety infrastructure.

Why E-Tagging Matters

E-tagging is expected to offer multiple benefits, such as:

  • Enhanced security tracking and automated vehicle identification
  • Better traffic management and checkpoint efficiency
  • Reduced manual inspection time
  • Improved coordination with law enforcement agencies

Citizens are advised to stay updated and comply with the new mandate to avoid movement restrictions once enforcement begins.
