Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, has announced a major expansion of the BRT network, with the addition of 100 new buses to improve daily commuting for residents. This move is part of KP’s ongoing efforts to modernize public transportation and provide affordable, high-quality travel options for citizens.
The initial batch of 50 buses has already been approved, with another 50 expected soon. The expansion aims to reduce overcrowding on existing BRT routes while extending services to underserved areas such as Tedi Bazaar (Jamraud) and Bara Bazaar in Khyber district.
During a site visit, Chief Minister Afridi personally rode the BRT from University of Peshawar Station to Karkhano Station, gathering feedback directly from commuters. He was accompanied by elected representatives and the Chief Secretary, emphasizing the government’s commitment to public engagement and quality service improvement.
Officials highlighted that the BRT expansion is designed to:
- Improve bus frequency and reduce wait times
- Enhance commuter convenience and safety
- Promote eco-friendly public transport as an alternative to private vehicles
The initiative also focuses on modernizing infrastructure, ensuring that buses are comfortable, efficient, and capable of meeting the growing demand for urban mobility. With these 100 new buses, the BRT system in KP is set to become more reliable, accessible, and commuter-friendly.
Chief Minister Afridi stated that the expansion reflects the provincial government’s dedication to affordable transportation, aiming to serve both low-income and middle-class residents. The BRT network’s development is expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance the overall commuting experience across KP.
The BRT expansion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a significant step toward sustainable and efficient public transport, offering residents a faster, safer, and more comfortable way to travel.
