GAC Hyptec SSR Becomes the World’s Fastest-Drifting EV at 213.523 km/h

In a groundbreaking achievement for the electric vehicle industry, the GAC Hyptec SSR has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s fastest drifting electric vehicle, reaching a staggering drift speed of 213.523 km/h. The record marks a major milestone for high-performance EV engineering and underscores China’s rapidly advancing electric supercar development.

The record was confirmed under the “Fastest Electric Vehicle Drift” category, which requires a car to sustain a drift angle of at least 30 degrees while maintaining speeds over 207 km/h across a distance of at least 50 meters. The Hyptec SSR not only met these conditions—it exceeded them, achieving a certified peak of 213.523 km/h.

Precision Driving Meets High-Tech Engineering

The drift was executed by professional driver Ye Zhicheng, who explained that the attempt required a precise balance between vehicle stability systems and human control. The record-setting moment was captured during a dedicated testing session and will be featured in a promotional short film linked to China’s 15th National Games.

GAC Group Chairman Feng Xingya called it a “historic achievement for China’s performance automotive industry,” emphasizing that the run was verified strictly under Guinness testing procedures.

A Look at the Hyptec SSR: China’s High-Performance Electric Supercar

Originally launched in 2022 under the Hyper sub-brand (renamed Hyptec in 2024), the SSR represents GAC’s first mass-produced electric supercar. It is available in three variants:

VariantPrice (Approx. USD)Price (CNY)
Standard$176,0001.286 million yuan
Ultimate$190,0001.386 million yuan
Track Edition$231,0001.686 million yuan

Powertrain and Performance Specifications

The Hyptec SSR is equipped with a tri-motor electric powertrain, delivering extraordinary output:

  • Front Motor: Permanent magnet synchronous, rated at 70 kW (peak 320 kW)
  • Rear Motors: Rated at 60 kW and 70 kW (peaks of 260 kW and 320 kW)
  • Total Peak Output: Over 900 kW

This setup enables:

  • 0–100 km/h in just 1.9 seconds
  • Maximum speed of 251 km/h
  • Acceleration forces up to 1.7 G, placing it among the fastest production EVs in the world

A Record That Pushes EV Limits Even Further

The Hyptec SSR’s achievement is more than a publicity milestone—it signals how electric performance engineering is evolving at high speed. It demonstrates that EVs are no longer just efficient and eco-friendly, but also capable of delivering extreme motorsport-grade performance.

As the global automotive landscape shifts toward electrification, records like this show that the future of performance cars may be electric—and faster than ever before.
