Air Link Communication Limited has officially confirmed that the much-awaited Xiaomi EV launch in Pakistan will be delayed. The decision comes as Xiaomi Corporation focuses on addressing overwhelming demand in China’s electric vehicle (EV) market before proceeding with international rollouts.
The update was shared during Air Link’s corporate briefing session following the release of its Q1 FY26 financial results, attended by Topline Securities. According to company officials, Xiaomi had initially planned to introduce its electric vehicles in Pakistan this year, but strong sales in China have shifted production priorities toward left-hand drive models for the domestic market.
Despite this delay, Air Link remains confident in its growth strategy. The company continues to work closely with the Pakistani government to secure export approvals for its locally produced products—a move that could potentially boost revenues by more than 200%, as per management estimates.
The excitement surrounding Xiaomi’s entry into Pakistan’s EV sector began last year when two units of the Xiaomi SU7 Max sedan were spotted at Karachi Port. Air Link’s CEO, Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha, confirmed the imports and stated that any decision on local assembly of Xiaomi electric cars would depend on market demand and long-term policy support.
Air Link is also moving forward with strategic infrastructure investments. The company plans to relocate its manufacturing operations to the Sundar Green Special Economic Zone (SEZ) by December 2025 or in the first half of FY26. The relocation will enable tax benefits, lower costs, and strengthen local production capabilities—key factors for scaling operations in Pakistan’s evolving tech industry.
In addition to its EV ambitions, Air Link has announced plans to open Pakistan’s first official Apple retail store by the end of 2025. The firm is also preparing to launch a new Xiaomi outlet at Lahore’s Dolmen Mall and is in advanced talks with an international electronics manufacturer to produce home appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines, and microwaves in Pakistan.
While the Xiaomi EV launch in Pakistan faces temporary delays, Air Link’s expansion into technology retail, local manufacturing, and diversified consumer electronics demonstrates a clear long-term vision for innovation and economic growth in the country.
