In a major step toward modern governance, the Punjab government has announced the launch of the Punjab digital toll system, marking the complete digitalization of all 38 toll plazas across the province. The announcement came during a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where multiple departments presented updates on infrastructure and technology-driven initiatives.

The government plans to replace manual toll collection with a “One App, One System” model—similar to Pakistan’s motorway e-tolling system. This move will ensure cashless transactions, reduced waiting times, and greater transparency in toll operations, aligning with the province’s goal of digital transformation and smart governance.

According to officials, the digital toll collection system will also help curb corruption and revenue leakage, ensuring that all toll payments are monitored and accounted for through an integrated platform.

Urban Renewal and Beautification Projects Approved in Lahore

Alongside digitalization, the Punjab government has approved a series of urban beautification projects in Lahore aimed at transforming the city’s landscape and improving livability. Major redevelopment plans include the revamping of the Railway Station, Data Darbar, Misri Shah, Ek Moriya, and Do Moriya bridges.

As part of the beautification initiative, a fountain and a children’s mini-train will be installed at the park opposite the railway station. Additionally, new roads and footpaths within a 3-kilometer radius will be constructed to improve accessibility and pedestrian infrastructure.

These projects are a continuation of the province’s broader smart city and urban renewal strategy, focused on sustainable development and tourism-friendly urban spaces.

Reconstruction and Flood Recovery Projects Completed

The meeting also reviewed progress reports from the Communication & Works Department and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). Officials confirmed the restoration of 54 bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads that were damaged during recent floods.

This large-scale reconstruction underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure resilience, public convenience, and sustainable urban development across Punjab.

A Vision for a Smarter, Greener Punjab

The Punjab digital toll system and Lahore’s beautification drive are part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s broader vision for a modern, efficient, and technology-driven Punjab. By integrating digital innovation with infrastructure development, the government aims to create a smart, transparent, and connected province that enhances quality of life for its citizens.
