By The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to expand Islamabad’s growing electric bus network with the launch of two new routes. The first will run from G-9 Karachi Company to Faizabad, while the second will connect Nilor to Khannapul, enhancing accessibility for thousands of daily commuters.
At present, Islamabad’s electric bus fleet covers 20 active routes, providing a sustainable and cost-effective alternative for residents. Officials say the addition of the new corridors will significantly ease travel between busy commercial centers and residential areas.
Growing Ridership with Expanding Fleet
Currently, around 120 electric buses are operational, transporting nearly 60,000 passengers daily. Once depot upgrades are completed—including the installation of advanced charging panels—the full fleet of 170 buses will be deployed. With this expansion, CDA estimates that daily ridership could surpass 100,000 passengers, marking a major milestone in the capital’s shift toward eco-friendly mobility.
Passenger Convenience Measures
To improve accessibility, CDA has been advised to provide printed route booklets at major points such as airports, railway stations, bus terminals, and shopping malls. Additionally, information boards will be installed at bus stops to help passengers navigate the routes more easily. These measures aim to ensure that new users can quickly adapt to the electric bus service, enhancing overall convenience.
