On September 19, 2025, Sargodha marked a new chapter in its urban transport history with the official launch of an electric bus service, inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. This project brings modern, eco-friendly, and safe public transport to one of Punjab’s growing cities, aligning with the government’s broader commitment to sustainable mobility.

33 Modern Electric Buses for Daily Commuters

The initiative introduces 33 fully electric buses designed to provide safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly travel for thousands of commuters across the city every day. With rising concerns about pollution and fuel costs, these buses aim to offer a reliable alternative to conventional public transport.

Inclusive Facilities for All Passengers

The electric bus service in Sargodha is designed with inclusivity in mind. Special arrangements have been made for women, children, and passengers with disabilities, ensuring that public transport is accessible to every segment of society. This approach not only improves mobility but also fosters social inclusion.

Four Modern Depots for Smooth Operations

To maintain efficiency and service reliability, four major depots have been set up across the city. Each depot is equipped with workshops, parking spaces, and charging infrastructure to support daily operations and ensure the fleet remains well-maintained.

Part of Punjab’s Clean and Green Transport Policy

This initiative is a vital component of the Punjab government’s clean and green transport policy, which focuses on reducing urban pollution, cutting carbon emissions, and providing citizens with modern, sustainable commuting options. By shifting to electric mobility, the government aims to make public transport safer, cleaner, and more cost-effective in the long run.

The launch of the electric bus service in Sargodha represents a forward-looking step toward greener urban living. With eco-friendly technology, inclusive facilities, and government backing, the service not only eases daily commuting but also supports Pakistan’s transition toward sustainable public transport.
