Punjab EPA Launches Crackdown on Vehicles Without Green Stickers Ahead of Smog Season

The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially begun a strict crackdown on vehicles operating without green stickers, a key certification for emission compliance. The initiative, announced by Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of the EPA, aims to curb rising pollution and combat the looming smog season.

Warning Slips and E-Challans in First Phase

According to EPA spokesperson Sajid Bashir, the first phase targets vehicles manufactured between 2010 and 2015. Owners of such vehicles are being issued warning slips along with e-challans delivered via post.

If vehicle owners fail to comply after the first notice, a second warning slip will follow. After that, heavy fines and legal action will be enforced. In some cases, repeated violations could even result in vehicle impoundment.

Green Sticker Requirement for Vehicles

Only vehicles that successfully pass the emission test are granted a green sticker. During the test, the engine, silencer, and catalytic converter undergo thorough inspection.

So far, more than 350,000 vehicles have been issued green stickers after clearing the emissions criteria. However, officials have stressed that vehicles without green stickers will not be allowed to enter Lahore during the smog season.

Citizens Urged to Get Vehicles Tested

The EPA has urged citizens to promptly get their vehicles tested at designated testing booths across Punjab. The department confirmed that a fee structure for obtaining the green sticker will be announced soon.

“The measure is crucial to protect public health and improve air quality in urban areas,” said the EPA spokesperson. “We urge all vehicle owners to comply before the smog season peaks.”
