The Metro Bus service in Rawalpindi has been partially suspended today (Friday) in connection with the Chehlum processions marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his loyal companions in Karbala.

According to the Metro Bus administration, operations between Saddar Station and Faizabad have been halted for the day on the instructions of the district administration. The decision is part of a coordinated security plan designed to ensure the safety of participants and the smooth movement of processions in the twin cities.

Limited Operations in Islamabad

While the Rawalpindi section remains closed, Metro service within Islamabad — from IJP to the Pak Secretariat — continues to operate as per routine. Officials have advised commuters who rely on the Rawalpindi route to arrange alternative means of transport for their travel needs today.

Part of a Broader Security Strategy

Authorities stated that the suspension is one element of a broader comprehensive security plan in place for Chehlum, which is being observed across the country with solemnity and reverence. The plan includes traffic diversions, route management, and deployment of security personnel to prevent congestion and ensure the safety of mourners.

National Significance of Chehlum

Chehlum, also known as Arbaeen, commemorates the 40th day after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions during the Battle of Karbala. The day is marked by large-scale processions, religious gatherings, and acts of mourning in cities across Pakistan, with participants paying tribute to the sacrifice and steadfastness of the martyrs.

By implementing temporary route suspensions and enhanced security protocols, the authorities aim to maintain peace, order, and smooth proceedings for one of the most significant days in the Islamic calendar.
