Punjab’s public transport system is set for a major eco-friendly upgrade as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the arrival of another fleet of 100 electric buses. The new buses are currently being loaded at Yantai Port, China, and are scheduled to set sail tonight.

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the chief minister revealed that the fare for this service will be just Rs. 20, making it an affordable transport option for millions of commuters in the province.

Modern and Eco-Friendly Fleet

The upcoming electric buses will be air-conditioned, WiFi-enabled, and fitted with a fully automated ticketing system. These features aim to modernize Punjab’s urban transport and improve the daily commute experience.

Notably, the fleet is designed with inclusive accessibility features for people with disabilities, ensuring safe and comfortable travel for all passengers. The buses will also have security measures to ensure passenger safety.

Affordable and Sustainable Urban Mobility

By introducing this new fleet, the Punjab government aims to reduce urban traffic congestion and cut carbon emissions, aligning with global trends toward sustainable public transportation. The low Rs. 20 fare will make the service highly accessible, particularly for students, workers, and low-income citizens.

Continued Public Transport Expansion

This move is part of a broader effort by the provincial administration to expand and modernize public transportation, with a focus on environmentally friendly solutions. The initiative complements other recent investments in electric mobility and mass transit infrastructure across Punjab.

With its blend of affordability, comfort, and eco-friendliness, the new electric bus fleet could transform daily commuting for thousands of residents while helping the province meet its environmental goals.
