The Punjab government has officially released the merit criteria for its Free E-Bike Scheme, a welfare initiative aimed at supporting female teachers across the province. Designed to improve mobility, reduce travel stress, and enhance punctuality, the scheme uses a comprehensive point-based system to determine eligibility.

Six-Category Merit System

Recipients will be selected based on six key categories:

  1. Distance from Home to School
    • 2 marks per kilometer, up to a maximum of 20 marks.
  2. Family Support Status
    • Widows, divorced, or independent women: 20 marks
    • Husbands working abroad: 15 marks
    • Husbands working in other cities: 10 marks
  3. School Posting Area
    • Boundary or hard-to-access areas: 20 marks
    • Rural areas: 15 marks
    • Urban areas: 10 marks
  4. Driving License
    • Valid license: 10 marks
    • Learner’s permit: 5 marks
  5. Seniority
    • 2 marks per year of service, up to 20 marks
  6. Academic Qualification
    • PhD: 10 marks
    • MS/MPhil: 8 marks
    • MA/MSc/BS: 5 marks

In cases where two applicants have the same score, preference will be given to the elder candidate.

A Step Towards Empowerment

The Free E-Bike Scheme is part of the provincial government’s efforts to facilitate female educators, particularly those posted in remote or difficult-to-reach areas. By providing eco-friendly electric bikes, the initiative aims to:

  • Reduce commuting challenges
  • Improve attendance and punctuality
  • Enhance overall job efficiency

This project not only supports the teaching workforce but also aligns with Punjab’s broader vision for sustainable and inclusive development in the education sector.
