Fuel Price Update: Petrol Drops by Rs. 7.54, Diesel Sees Rs. 1.48 Hike

In a notable move for motorists and transport operators, the Government of Pakistan has revised fuel prices with mixed outcomes. Effective August 1, 2025, petrol prices have been reduced by Rs. 7.54 per liter, while high-speed diesel (HSD) prices have gone up by Rs. 1.48 per liter, according to an official notification from the Finance Division.

With the latest revision, the price of petrol stands at Rs. 264.61 per liter, down from Rs. 272.15. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel will now be sold at Rs. 285.83 per liter, compared to its previous rate of Rs. 284.35.

This change follows the last review on July 15, 2025, when fuel prices had surged significantly. At that time, petrol saw a Rs. 5.36 increase, while HSD recorded a steep hike of Rs. 11.37 per liter.

Breakdown of Latest Prices (Effective August 1, 2025):

Fuel TypePrevious Price (Rs./liter)New Price (Rs./liter)Change (Rs.)

High-Speed Diesel284.35285.83Rs. 1.48

Public Impact

The petrol price reduction is likely to bring some relief to private vehicle owners and small transporters. However, the hike in diesel—which fuels most commercial and heavy transport—may lead to increased freight costs, indirectly affecting the prices of goods and public transport fares.

Market watchers note that fluctuating global oil prices and the exchange rate dynamics are key factors influencing these bi-weekly price adjustments under Pakistan’s fuel pricing mechanism.

As fuel prices continue to shift in response to global and domestic factors, consumers are advised to stay informed and plan accordingly. The next fuel price review is expected around mid-August 2025, unless changes are made earlier in response to market volatility.
