Lahore is stepping up its commitment to clean and sustainable urban travel with the introduction of Lahore Electric Trams. This green transport project is the latest in the city’s series of eco-friendly initiatives, following the Metro Bus, Orange Line Metro Train, Speedo feeder buses, and Electro Green buses.
Imported Electric Trams to Cut Emissions
A representative of the Orange Line project confirmed that the new electric trams have been imported from China to support Lahore’s transition to a low-emission public transport system. Each tram will feature three modern compartments and accommodate up to 250 passengers at once — a major boost to the city’s capacity for safe and comfortable mass transit.
Fast Charging & Efficient Performance
One of the standout features of the Lahore Electric Trams is their impressive charging technology. Each tram can travel 25 to 27 kilometers on a single 10-minute charge, making them ideal for busy urban routes and daily commutes.
Test Run to Begin on Key Route
Assembly work for the first electric trams is underway at the Ali Town Depot. The trial service will operate on a dedicated route from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura, connecting key areas and testing the trams in real traffic conditions.
Free Travel During Trial Phase
To encourage residents to experience this modern transport option, the Lahore Electric Trams trial service will be free of cost initially. Once the test phase is successful and public feedback is collected, regular ticketing will be introduced to make the service sustainable long-term.
A Step Towards Cleaner Urban Mobility
By launching electric trams, Lahore aims to reduce carbon emissions, lower fuel consumption, and provide affordable, eco-friendly commuting for thousands of daily travelers. As other Pakistani cities look to modernize their public transport, the Lahore Electric Trams project could set an example for sustainable urban mobility nationwide.
This bold step reinforces Lahore’s status as a pioneer in green infrastructure and a city ready to tackle pollution and traffic congestion with innovative solutions.
