The Punjab government is ready to launch the Punjab E-Taxi Scheme, an ambitious transport project designed to promote clean energy, create jobs, and support women and unemployed youth.
Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan chaired a recent meeting to finalize the plan, which is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s broader E-Taxi Program 2025.
In the first phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed to eligible applicants through interest-free installment plans. This means beneficiaries can pay in easy monthly installments without any additional charges — making electric taxis accessible to more people, especially those who cannot afford large upfront costs.
To make this possible, the government has partnered with Dewan Motors, which will supply two models: the Honri VC20 and Honri VC30. These electric taxis offer ranges of 200 km and 300 km per charge, respectively.
To support these vehicles, the government is setting up EV charging stations every 3 kilometers in Lahore, with plans to expand the network across Punjab. This will ensure that drivers can easily recharge and keep their taxis on the road without delays.
According to the transport minister, over 60,000 people have already shown interest in the Punjab E-Taxi Scheme. The application process will be simple and inclusive, with a focus on reaching rural areas, women, and people with disabilities.
This project is expected to create thousands of new job opportunities, providing a stable source of income for many households across Punjab.
Replacing traditional petrol-powered taxis with electric vehicles will help reduce air pollution, lower fuel costs, and move the province closer to its clean energy goals. This aligns with the Punjab government’s larger commitment to sustainable development and greener cities.
The official launch date of the Punjab E-Taxi Scheme will be announced soon through public messages and advertisements. Once launched, the scheme is expected to transform Punjab’s transport landscape, supporting green mobility and economic inclusion for those who need it most.
