Punjab Traffic Police Overhauls Driving License System with High-Tech Testing

In a major step to promote road safety and eliminate corruption, the Punjab Traffic Police has announced a complete overhaul of its driving license system. The upgraded testing process will introduce advanced vehicles fitted with internal and external cameras and cutting-edge sensors to monitor candidates during driving tests.

According to DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir, this initiative aims to make the process foolproof by eliminating recommendations, bribery, and human bias from the testing procedure. The new system will automatically record and assess every action of the test-taker in real time, ensuring a transparent and fair evaluation for all applicants.

To further tighten security and prevent impersonation, the licensing process will now include mandatory biometric attendance. This will verify each applicant’s identity, making it impossible for anyone to take the test on someone else’s behalf.

Modern, sensor-equipped vehicles will soon be deployed at all driving test centers across Punjab, ensuring uniformity and transparency in the licensing process throughout the province.

Highlighting the urgent need for this reform, DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir revealed that only 17% of drivers in Punjab currently hold valid driving licenses. The department believes that with these technological upgrades, more people will be encouraged to get properly licensed, and stricter action will be taken against unqualified drivers who put lives at risk.

This modernization aligns with Punjab’s wider vision of digitizing public services and curbing corruption. By integrating technology, the Punjab Traffic Police hopes to raise driving standards, improve road safety, and win back the public’s trust in the licensing system.

The new testing system promises a consistent, transparent, and corruption-free process — a much-needed reform for safer roads across the province.
