In a major relief for daily commuters and shoppers, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced that parking on 32 main roads across the city will now be completely free. The decision, which comes into effect immediately, was made following directions from Sindh Chief Minister and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab to ease the burden on citizens who rely on roadside parking for their routine activities.

According to the KMC, these designated free parking zones are spread across the city’s key commercial areas, covering districts East, Central, South, Korangi/Malir, and West/Keamari. The move is aimed at eliminating illegal parking fee collection and providing relief to Karachi’s residents amid rising living costs.

Why Free Parking Matters?

For years, Karachiites have complained about unauthorized parking mafias and hefty parking charges on public roads. By removing these fees, the city administration hopes to improve public convenience and make daily commutes and shopping trips more affordable and hassle-free.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone found charging parking fees in these notified areas. Citizens are also encouraged to report violations to the KMC.
