Punjab Expands Vehicle Emissions Testing to Motorways to Combat Air Pollution

In a significant move to tackle rising air pollution, the Punjab government has announced the expansion of its Vehicle Emissions Testing System (ETS) to motorways. This initiative, spearheaded by the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department, marks a critical step toward enforcing environmental standards across the province.

The ETS booths will soon be operational at strategic points along major motorways, providing vehicle owners with easier access to emissions testing services while traveling long distances. This initiative not only targets cleaner air but also aims to raise awareness among motorists about their environmental responsibilities.

ETS Already Active in Lahore

Currently, ETS booths are functional at 20 key locations across Lahore, including:

  • Emporium Mall
  • Liberty Market
  • Model Town Park
  • Jallo Park
  • CBD Kalma Chowk

These booths operate Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a lunch and prayer break from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The service is designed to make emissions testing accessible and efficient for both private and commercial vehicle owners.

Testing Made Easier Through Mobile App and Helpline

To further enhance public convenience, the Green Punjab mobile app now offers booth location details, testing information, and live updates. Citizens can also dial 1373, a dedicated helpline, to find the nearest ETS booth or receive assistance.

The government is actively encouraging the public to get their vehicles tested to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and contribute to a cleaner, greener Punjab.

Why This Matters?

Air pollution, largely driven by vehicular emissions, remains a critical environmental and public health challenge in urban and peri-urban areas of Punjab. By expanding ETS to motorways, the government aims to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and promote eco-friendly transportation practices.

This policy is not just regulatory—it’s transformative. It sends a clear message: clean air is everyone’s responsibility.
