Islamabad Electric Buses Now on Google Maps: New Features, Digital Payments, and Fare Updates

In a major boost for public transport and digital accessibility, Islamabad’s electric bus service will soon be fully integrated with Google Maps, allowing commuters to view real-time information about routes, stations, and schedules from their mobile devices. The initiative, led by Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, aims to simplify travel planning and promote eco-friendly transportation.

Google Maps Integration for Electric Buses

During a recent meeting at CDA headquarters, Chairman Randhawa directed the transport department to ensure that all electric buses appear clearly on Google Maps, with color-coded routes, stop details, and estimated arrival times. This feature will help Islamabad’s daily commuters better plan their journeys and reduce reliance on personal vehicles.

The integration is part of the CDA’s broader strategy to modernize Islamabad’s transport system and promote green alternatives. With daily ridership of electric buses already hitting 95,000, the city is setting a strong example in sustainable mobility.

Contactless Payments and Travel Discounts Coming Soon

To further improve passenger convenience, CDA is working to introduce debit and credit card fare payments, including support for Visa and MasterCard. Coordination with banks is underway to enable secure, card-based transactions.

Chairman Randhawa also proposed discounted travel packages, including weekly, monthly, and quarterly passes. These will offer special concessions for students, senior citizens, and daily wage workers, ensuring affordability for all user segments.

Revised Fare Structure Announced

In parallel, a fare hike has been introduced across several metro and feeder bus routes in Islamabad, effective June 1, 2025, just before Eid ul Azha. The updated flat fare of Rs 100 per ride now applies to the:

• Orange Line (FAF to NS, NS to Airport)
• Green Line (PIMS to Bhara Kahu)
• Blue Line (PIMS to Gulberg Green)
• Electric Vehicle Feeder Routes

The Red Line (Rawalpindi–Islamabad Metro) fare remains unchanged. CDA officials explained the hike was necessary to maintain service quality amid rising fuel and operational costs, although passengers have called for a distance-based fare model to ensure fairness.

With plans for further route expansion, digital fare collection, and enhanced rider tools like Google Maps integration, Islamabad’s public transport system is evolving into a modern, user-friendly, and environmentally sustainable service.
