In a major infrastructural development, the Government of Pakistan has approved the construction of a four-lane motorway connecting Mansehra to Kaghan, Naran, Jhal Kund, and Chilas. The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, who emphasized the strategic and economic importance of this 235-kilometer highway project.
The proposed motorway is set to transform travel across northern Pakistan’s popular tourist destinations, including the scenic valleys of Kaghan and Naran, while enhancing access to Chilas, a gateway to Gilgit-Baltistan. The motorway will not only improve regional connectivity but is also expected to significantly uplift tourism, local businesses, and inter-provincial trade.
Minister Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted that the Mansehra to Chilas highway will be built according to international standards, with special attention given to the comfort and safety of travelers. The plan includes the construction of modern rest areas along the N-15 route, allowing tourists to take short breaks on their journey through the hilly terrain.
In a bold move, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has been directed to declare an emergency status for the project. Work is to commence immediately, with a commitment to round-the-clock operations to ensure early completion. The minister stressed that delays would not be tolerated, labeling this initiative a high-priority national project.
To ease the burden on travelers, the toll collection system on the Mansehra-Kaghan-Naran motorway will be split into two segments. This measure aims to enhance accessibility and affordability for commuters. In return, the NHA has been tasked with ensuring world-class service facilities, justifying the toll collection with tangible benefits.
This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to developing infrastructure that supports tourism, economic growth, and regional development. With the involvement of the Federal Secretary for Communications and NHA Chairman, the project is set to move forward with high-level oversight and accountability.
