Government Pledges Strong Support for Pakistan’s Automotive Sector in Pre-Budget Meeting

In a significant move aimed at revitalizing Pakistan’s auto industry, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting local manufacturers. The announcement came during a high-level meeting held with representatives of the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) on Tuesday.

The session brought together key players in the automotive industry, including Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, Kia, Hyundai, Yutong, and Sazgar, who collectively discussed critical issues such as tariff structures, regulatory duties, and proposals for the upcoming federal budget.

Government’s Vision for a Sustainable Auto Industry

SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s long-term industrial vision includes sustainable development in the automotive sector. A particular focus was placed on promoting electric vehicles (EVs) through incentives and supportive policies, aligning with the global push toward green mobility.

“We are committed to taking every possible step to promote the local auto industry and address its challenges,” Khan said, highlighting the government’s proactive approach.

To ensure that industry concerns are adequately addressed, Khan instructed PAMA to work closely with the Ministry of Industries and Production to formulate a comprehensive proposal. The goal is to create an enabling environment for manufacturers by addressing key barriers, introducing policy reforms, and ensuring a level playing field.

The government also acknowledged the existing challenges faced by manufacturers, including rising production costs, inconsistent policy frameworks, and import restrictions. The SAPM reassured the participants that the government would remain a committed partner in the industry’s development.
