In a significant move to enhance regional connectivity, Uzbekistan Airways has announced the commencement of direct flights from Tashkent to Islamabad, starting May 24, 2025. Initially operating once a week on Saturdays, this new air route marks a positive step in strengthening bilateral ties between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.

Though final details are still being coordinated by aviation authorities from both countries, the announcement highlights a shared commitment to deepening cooperation in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. This direct flight is poised to become a convenient and time-saving option for travelers, helping to bridge Central and South Asia more effectively.

The launch of the Tashkent-Islamabad route is expected to significantly boost tourism and business between the two nations. It reflects a growing trend in regional air travel development. Recently, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) began direct flights from Lahore to Baku, Azerbaijan, showing a broader regional focus on expanding cross-border connectivity.

Beyond travel, both Pakistan and Uzbekistan are actively working to strengthen economic relations, with a shared goal of increasing bilateral trade to $1 billion. Collaborative efforts are underway in key sectors including food processing, textiles, and electronics, supported by a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA). This agreement is designed to ease market access and reduce tariffs, creating favorable conditions for exporters and importers in both countries.

The new air link is more than a logistical convenience—it represents a growing friendship and mutual ambition. From tourists and students to entrepreneurs and families, this route will make travel simpler, faster, and more affordable.

With ongoing collaboration and diplomatic goodwill, the Tashkent-Islamabad flight is a promising step toward deeper integration across Central and South Asia—one that benefits both economies and their people.
