After a prolonged downturn in 2022 and early 2023, Pakistan’s auto industry is showing early signs of recovery in FY2024-25. As part of this gradual turnaround, Honda, one of the country’s leading automotive manufacturers, has confirmed its interest in entering the electric vehicle (EV) and electric bike (e-bike) segments.
In a clarification letter dated March 27, 2025, Honda responded to media reports about a potential e-bike launch. The statement noted that Atlas Honda Limited is actively evaluating opportunities in the EV space, although no formal product announcements will be made until substantial progress is achieved.
“The Company is actively exploring and adapting to emerging technological developments, including the potential entry into the electric vehicle segment in the foreseeable future,” the letter stated.
Pakistan’s auto industry has weathered tough macroeconomic conditions in recent years, including high inflation, currency depreciation, import restrictions, and elevated interest rates. These factors led to production slowdowns, plant shutdowns, and a drop in sales across the board.
However, as the economic situation stabilizes, consumer demand is gradually picking up, especially for fuel-efficient and budget-friendly vehicles like the Honda City. The Honda Civic, although premium-priced, continues to attract upper-middle-class buyers for its reliability and performance.
Meanwhile, the Honda HR-V has seen modest growth in urban centers, capitalizing on the rising popularity of SUVs and crossovers. That said, supply chain issues and pricing pressures still pose significant challenges.
With global and domestic shifts toward sustainable transportation, Honda’s reported interest in EVs aligns with government initiatives promoting green technology. Although no launch date has been confirmed, the company is laying the groundwork for future EV and e-bike production.
The move would not only help Honda diversify its portfolio but also respond to growing environmental awareness and consumer interest in electric mobility.
While Honda car sales remain below pre-crisis levels, operational stability has improved, and inventory levels are gradually normalizing. If economic conditions continue to improve, Honda is expected to benefit from pent-up consumer demand during the latter half of 2025.
In the meantime, the industry and consumers alike are keeping a close eye on Honda’s next move — especially as the brand positions itself to lead Pakistan’s transition to cleaner and smarter mobility solutions.
