Punjab Traffic Police Reinstates 42-Day Waiting Period for Permanent Motorcycle Licenses

The Punjab Traffic Police has reinstated the mandatory 42-day waiting period for motorcyclists applying for a permanent driving license. This decision comes after the conclusion of a temporary relief period, which ended on December 15, allowing applicants to bypass the waiting period and apply immediately after obtaining a learner permit.

Road Safety and Strict Enforcement

Mirza Faran Baig, Additional IG Traffic, has stressed the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations. The department has announced a crackdown on individuals driving without valid licenses, reiterating that road safety is a top priority.

Impact of Temporary Relief

During the relief period, there was a notable surge in license applications, with over 841,000 licenses issued in November. This included learner permits, new licenses, renewals, and international driving licenses. Licensing centers across Punjab operated 24/7 to manage the unprecedented demand, demonstrating the significant public interest in obtaining driving credentials.

Purpose of Reinstating the Waiting Period

The reinstatement of the waiting period aims to ensure that applicants undergo proper training and testing before being granted permanent licenses. Authorities believe this measure will enhance the skills of motorcyclists and lead to safer roads across the province.

Future Road Safety Goals

By allowing a 42-day preparation period, the Punjab Traffic Police intends to better evaluate applicants’ readiness for permanent licenses. This policy aligns with the department’s broader goal of improving road safety and reducing traffic violations in the province.

With the new policy in place, the Punjab Traffic Police urges all motorcyclists to comply with regulations and prioritize road safety.
